BUSINESS DESCRIPTION
The SPAR Group was launched in 1963. Today, the Group operates 6 distribution centres supplying goods and services to almost 800 SPAR stores in South Africa. The SPAR Group listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange in 2005.

The 3 friendly store formats (SPAR for neighbourhood shopping, SUPERSPAR for one-stop, competitively priced, bulk shopping and KWIKSPAR for every day convenience) cater more than adequately for all clients shopping preferences.

SPAR operates under 'voluntary trading' principles which means that while they encourage retailers to take advantage of SPAR's trading power, the retailers can source goods from local traders. That is why each store has its own regional personality.

SPAR aims to provide friendly, caring service which cannot be matched. This includes attention to quality of both product and service which is the hallmark of the SPAR Group who deliver positive value for your investment.

This particular store has been operating under the same owner for the past 37 years. The store enjoys excellent location and is the preferred supermarket in its area and includes a Liquor Store in-house.

As the premises are owned, there is the an option of purchasing the building or renting with an option to buy. The owner has indicated that the business has grown at the rate of 14,5% over the past 18 months.

There are currently 38 staff all of which are permanent employees and paid according to wholesale and retail section minimum wage.

The owner is retiring and the selling price is R8,347,500 made up as follows:

R7,147,500 plus stock (taken at end of May 2012) which amounted to R1,200,000. There is a once off joining fee and royalty is 1% on total turnover excluding electricity and lotto sales.
